In no particular order:
David Bowie/Mick Jagger - Dancing in the Street
This is the most absurd piece of WTF ever and I can't not love it. There's awkward British white-boy dancing, leaps, freeze frames on shaking butts, dizzy spinning cameras, a soda break, fabulously awful 80s clothes, and the lingering thought that the a-bit-too-pretty Bowie and startlingly unattractive Jagger will just give up on the video and start making out. Whoever directed this video deserves an award.
How I Met Your Mother - Confrontation from "Les Miserables"
There is no way I am the only person on the planet who has wanted to see Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel sing "Confrontation" from Les Miserables. Either way: prayers answered. The real beauty of this video (and the beauty of a lot of these that I'm posting) is in the emotion. Neil starts singing and Jason looks like he's thinking "Oh God. Why is he doing this? This is so embarrassing!" but he just busts out with Jean Valjean's response without missing a beat. You know it's reached it's peak when Neil gets so into his role as Javert that he smacks the table. My only regret is that it didn't go on longer although throughout the whole video the audience is left to wonder, "How much of the song are they really going to do?" Also, note the faces of the other cast members and Megan Mullally. Cobie Smulders looks legitimately frightened once they start but by the end they're all totally into it (especially Josh Radnor). Anyone up for a revival?
Travis Willingham reads "I'm The Flame Alchemist"
Even if you don't read manga, this is funny. The anime community is odd but I enjoy watching them because it makes me feel less dorky. However, I reveled in this video. Essentially, at the end of one of the volumes of "Fullmetal Alchemist" the author, Hiromu Arakawa, wrote these really, really silly lyrics to this song she made up that parodies Colonel Roy Mustang's perceived persona as a womanizer. Some genius brought the lyrics to a panel at an anime convention and asked Travis Willingham a.k.a. the English dub voice of Roy to read them. He goes through a whole range of emotions while reading them, starting with an annoyed monotone and then getting really into it in the middle. I kind of love this man now.
The Count - Censored
Okay, okay. I know this is overdone but I still love it so dearly. Nothing else to say there.
Christopher Walken reads "Poker Face"
Apparently I have a thing for hilarious people reading the lyrics to silly songs. Go figure. The video really reaches it's amazing point when he gets to the chorus. I wonder if he has ever actually heard "Poker Face" but I like to think that he hasn't so that the video maintains its purity.
